Visiting markets and mountains (private)
The markets in Gran Canaria are bursting with all colors. If you want to experience the unique atmosphere of the markets, which are mainly visited by local residents, this trip is just for you. Our journey takes us first to the mountain town of Vega de San Mateo. The Sunday markets in the area of the city market are overflowing with fresh vegetables, cheeses, spices, honey and many other products from the island. You will of course also have time for a short walk around the city. If you decide to buy cheese or other fresh products, you don't have to worry about the heat in the car, we have a cooling box ready for you.
Through the green hills and gorges of the north of the island, we will move to another mountain town, the seat of the island's patroness, Teror. The markets around the basilica are mainly characterized by handicrafts. Here you will find not only gift items with a church theme, but also many items that will bring you back to the island in your memories. Of course, you must not miss the stand with guarapo, sugar cane juice that they squeeze right before your eyes. You can also flavor Guarapo with local rum, so you'll have a mojito like you've never had before.
Our journey will continue around the crater in Pinos de Gáldar with a view of the northwest of the island and then to the highest village on the island, which is located at an altitude of almost 1300 m.a.s.l. We will see how people still live in cave houses today, we will visit the church located in the cave, we will walk to the statue of Jesus Christ, which towers over the city, similar to the one in Rio, Brazil. Alternatively, it is possible to taste local specialties in one of the restaurants.
Our next stop will be Cruz de Tejeda with a view of the Tejeda caldera. Next, we will visit the highest mountain of the island, from where we will return via Caldera de los Marteles and Telde.
